Hello and welcome to my kitchen! My name is Lindsay and I am a food stylist and photographer. I am also the recipe developer and blogger behind With Salt and Pepper. I live with my three children in the small town of Southwest, Michigan. They are my heart and soul and you may see them here from time to time, as they are not only my little taste testers, but also my little apprentices. We are very fortunate to live just a couple of miles from the beautiful Lake Michigan in the heart of a very large agricultural area. This means that we are also very fortunate to have a plethora of fresh, seasonal produce at our fingertips almost 7 months out of the year depending on when the frost hits us and leaves us. These two things combined with the incredible sense of community here make me feel like we truly live in paradise. Don’t even get me started on the sunsets…
I started this blog to chronicle my time in the kitchen and to challenge my creative side. I like simplicity, and am an advocate of getting back to basics in the kitchen. The base of almost everything I cook begins with salt and pepper, and a little bit of olive oil. Simple and basic. To me, the perfect name for everything I do here.
The recipes I share will be mostly healthy, mostly my own, and mostly from scratch. I’ll also share with you my tried and true favorites from others because why reinvent the wheel when something just works?
I cook from scratch because I love the entire experience of it. It’s a process. And it takes time. When we are engaged with the food we are preparing, we are carefully selecting the ingredients we use and taking the time to pay attention to each one. We are given grand opportunities to become mindful and connected with food in a unique way. An intimate relationship can be formed. And it’s a beautiful thing to me that I love to nurture. Nurturing that also allows my kids to grow up seeing and learning how to make their own food to fuel their bodies. Setting the example and teaching them at home is the first place to start in preparing them for a healthy future, a huge priority of mine.
My intention for this space is to combine my passions for everything food related to create both healthy, and sometimes a little less than, dishes that you feel good about making, eating, and sharing. I thank you for stopping by and hope you feel inspired to try something new or, at least, slow down in the kitchen when you can, and smell the garlic. Happy Cooking!

- Savory over sweet, any day of the week.
- Lake Michigan is my sanctuary.
